Like the story before this, I didn’t want to write this story because I am actually lending credibility to the fantasy that NBC’s Nashville Star is a nationwide talent contest instead of a shameful reality show. Previous seasons, while sometimes pained, at least attempted to pretend they were a talent competition.

There is simply no conceivable way anybody with just a little music savvy can believe that this season’s contestants are in any way representative of the unsigned country music talent “out there.” NBC has successfully managed to morph this former talent show into a low-rent reality show. Before you send me any nasty emails, please understand I believe that the final contestants are all perfectly fine singers. However, they simply and undeniably are NOT the best of the best of the unsigned country music artists out there. I hope this will be one of the last stories I have to write about a stupid reality show.

Our spies found JOHN RICH out honky-tonkin’ last night at Robert’s Western World (see photo above) and other honky tonks. There is nothing unusual about that. However, as of late, his arrogance seems to be at an all time high. Perhaps, he needs to stay home a few nights and get his bearings back.
Off-Air Arrogance: Last night we found JOHN with an entourage of Nashville-Star-sorts and hanger-on’s bar hopping on Broadway Ave. in Nashville. On at least two occasions last night, he was run out of tonks for trying to get an underage girl into the bars…. well after the mid-night hour. He also disrespectfully chooses to smoke cigars whenever he wants… even in non smoking tonks. We have seen him do this on many occasions. I guess he must think such “ordinary people” rules don’t apply to him.
On-Air Arrogance: As a judge he has to be critical. However he often comes across as being arrogant and condescending. For example, I was taken aback a few weeks ago on Nashville Star when he accused contestant COFFEY ANDERSON of not being “country enough” and that COFFEY’s cowboy hat doesn’t make him country. Then more shockingly he told the true Texas and small town country contestant that there was a show for pop singers called “American Idol”. What the fuck is he talking about??? Is he saying that American Idol stars CARRIE UNDERWOOD and KELLIE PICKLER are pop artists and not country artists? I was glad to see COFFEY not take JOHN’s shit and stood up for his “country credentials.” Maybe JOHN just has a guilty conscience.

Eye spy with my Nashville Spy Eye a WINNER…Well it’s been airing for a few weeks now and I think it’s time for me to take stand and mark my vote for my top two on NASHVILLE STAR. I am just one person but my vote is the most important…right? LOL I have been pulling for these two since the very beginning and now officially give my stamp of approval. I do have a hunch that one of these two will be the next NASHVILLE STAR!

My top male pick from NASHVILLE STAR is for GABE GARCIA. This Tex-Mex hottie not only rocked the song “Fireman” the other night but he always seems to be igniting a fire in me! GABE is true to his roots and pure country. He is as real as he is raw and this boy has my vote!

My top female pick from NASHVILLE STAR is MELISSA LAWSON. She too is a Texas native and a force to be reckon with! Damn this girl can sing and what I love even more is her confidence. She is confident in her abilities and also confident in who she is…she is not the typical norm for someone trying to make it in the music business and I like that. She has curves and she knows how to use them…she isn’t afraid to embrace who she is and with that voice she could win this competition.

ALYSON was on the bottom two on the first episode and in my opinion she should have went home then…she’s a knock out but her vocal capabilities just aren’t astounding. JEWEL, a judge on the show, often compared ALYSON and her performances to that of a beauty pageant contestant. Considering ALYSON was Miss St. Paul there is no denying her pageant roots, I guess it’s just in her nature. ALYSON’S performances were always a bit over the top and at times her eyes would get so wide you’d think her eyes were going to pop out of her head! In any case…ALYSON got out sung and sent home. GOOD-BYE Miss St. Paul!!

According to our spies, BILLY RAY CYRUS (spied warming up backstage) and MILEY CYRUS (on stage with JEFFREY STEELE) were among the impressive music talent that showed up to perform and lend their support to a Nashville-area skate festival yesterday (6/29) to honor ALEX LaVASSEUR.

ALEX was a passionate and enthusiastic skater by all accounts. He is the late son of Nashville Star judge and mega songwriter JEFFREY. ALEX was only 13 when he was killed is an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) accident in January of last year.

At the festival, JEFFREY told the crowd that the only song of his that was on his late son’s i-Pod was his song entitled “Simple Song”. Then MILEY and JEFFREY sang the song together. “Simple Song” will be on MILEY’s album “Beakout” due for release July 22, 2008.

Then after some resistance from JEFFREY, MILEY persuaded him to sing “Hollywood Girl” with her. It is a song JEFFREY wrote. Also, songwriter and artist SARAH BUXTON joined the stage to lend her support… from the looks of the photo, (see above) she even got a little up-skirt breeze.

BILLY RAY and JEFFREY work together on NBC’s popular TV program Nashville Star. Our spies reported that the event was very moving and emotional for those in attendance.

The eliminations were narrowed down to THIRD TOWN and MELISSA LAWSON. In my opinion America made a good choice by sending this trio home! The pairing of these three men just didn’t fit; they had three different styles going on. It would be like putting MICHEAL BUBLE with KID ROCK and JOSH GRACIN! Vocally they weren’t anything to write home about either then again this season hasn’t shown too much talent in general! Tonight is “POP” night…which is beyond me because isn’t NASHVILLE STAR a country music competition? If we wanted specialized nights and variety wouldn’t we just watch AMERICAN IDOL? In any case if you’re dying to see how our country contestants sing to pop songs tune in tonight at 8pm on NBC! I’m going to watch just to see who America sends packing and maybe even get a good laugh.
