Our spies tell us Jamey Johnson was in A+ form this morning for his free street concert. He had a huge stage set up right in the middle of Commerce Street in downtown Nashville. The streets were packed! The Mayor played some of his popular songs but debuted “Nothing Is Better Than You”. Listen to the song. The song title is certainly a play on words… much in the vein of his song “Give It Away” made popular by George Strait. Also, he had the morning crowd going crazy when he sang country favorite “Dinosaur”.

Late Tuesday night (1/6/09) surprised honky tonkers were treated to the Mayor of Country Music, JAMEY JOHNSON, showing up at Legends Corner live music honky tonk.  Eventually the Mayor was persuaded to sing a few of his songs and covers.   The Mayor is nominated for three Grammy awards.  In this amateur clip from a spy, the Mayor sings KEITH WHITLEY’s country classic “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”  The clip dark and you hear a lot of annoying voices, but according to the spy who was there, his performances were outstanding.  Afterwards he took time to meet and greet several surprised fans.

This video of JAMEY “The Mayor of Country Music” JOHNSON was taken March 18, 2008 by a spy at a St. Judes Chirdren’s Reachsearch Hospital funraiser held at the Tin Roof in Nashville.  While the video quality is certainly inferior, we were assured that as usual, The Mayor easily managed to make this striped down acoustic performance sound like a million bucks.  Towards the send of his set she shared the stage with his daughter KYLEE.  Even JOHNSON’s former wife was there to lend her support to the effort.

Anyone who reads our site knows we have lost all objectivity when it comes to reporting on JAMEY JOHNSON. In our very first story, we pronounced him “The Mayor of Country Music”. Check out JAMEY’s video for “In Color” and you will know why he is the shit! All to often we hear that there are no “real” or “traditional” country music artists out there.

JAMEY is proof there is!

Anyone who reads nashvillespy.com with some frequency knows JAMEY JOHNSON and LEWIS COPELAND are two of our favorite talented country music artists to report on!

Last night (6/25) our spies spotted JAMEY, a/k/a “The Mayor of Country Music”, with his gal NANCI FILIPELLI at Nashville honky-tonk Roberts Western World enjoying the live music. JAMEY is currently charting with his moving single “In Color”. While there, our spies happened upon LEWIS yapping it up with JAMEY. Despite LEWIS’ contemporary country sound, he says he is a huge fan of JAMEY’S music. LEWIS told our spies that he has incorporated several of JAMEY’s songs into his own set list at The Stage on Broadway where LEWIS usually plays Thursday and Saturday nights.

Go buy JAMEY’s new album “That Lonesome Song“… it is a must have! It should be put in the Smithsonian!

JOHANNA’S SIDE NOTE: WELL…WELL….the “V-Neck” again!! I swear LEWIS has one in every flippen color!! Maybe he can get JAMEY to start sporting this hot trend- then again by the looks of JAMEY’S face maybe not!!
